It's really amazing that the internet we know and love today was started solely to ensure continuous communication if something were to happen to the US. All the technical details were a little too much for anybody (even a CS major), and I don't see them being too helpful in our class as we study the internet and our culture. I've learned about the history of the internet through a few different sources, and though each time has been slightly different, I think the main underlying thing to take away from any explanation is how/why these networks were created in the first place.
