Practicum presentation question post: Meredith

My presentation is on social and political activism. I specifically have been looking at how the Democratic Party uses their website to reach other people AND how those people in turn use the the site to get connected with other users and with the democrats. I have a couple questions for you guys to think about for tomorrow:
1. Do you think it is improtant for democrats.org to engange in reputation management on their sites like facebook and youtube or do you think that would violate the purpose of the sites?
2. The dnc.org site lacks a chat room or a message board. Do you think that is a mistake in their website if the point is to reach out to people?

  1. In regards to the second question I don't think it is a mistake that the site lacks a chat room or message board. In some circumstances like these, the Political Party at hand, in this case the Democrats, want to be able to have complete control over the things that are posted and put on their sites. They don't want to have to worry about the wrong messages getting posted on their site, and they don't want people getting linked to other sites. If they allowed blogs or chat rooms people could post links that would direct other viewers away from their own sites (defeating the purpose of their own sites).
