Facebook's New Anti-Bullying Tool Just thought I would share this link about the measures Facebook is taking to stop cyber-bullying. It relates really well to our discussion from a couple weeks ago where we talked about bullying online. One of the biggest tools they added is the option to choose to include a trusted authority figure, such as a teacher of parent, in an incident report. While this is a great option, I don't think it will make much of a difference. In order for this to be helpful in preventing bullying, kids must actually use this tool. I doubt that many would want to include an authority figure. What do you all think? Will it make a difference?

  1. One of the first things I would ask is: do users know that this new setting even exists? I think that the idea is great and can be very helpful and useful for younger users. In a way I feel like this is a way for Facebook to gain more users. Many parents have issues with their young children getting involved in social networking sites. But now that Facebook has enacted this new setting, it may loosen parents views if they think there is a safety/ bulling realm for what is going on. I do think that this tool could be useful for older users too. When I read your post a personal situation came to mind about a girl's photo that a boy posted on line of her. The picture is goofy and he tagged a bunch of boys from my grade in it. I want to go and report it....
    Thanks for sharing.

  2. I would have never known about this new setting if it weren't for your blog post. I'm really surprised that Facebook did not inform its users of this new setting. After reading through the article, it seems like this new setting is a huge deal. I feel that it won't make much of a difference though because most users probably are not even aware it exists unless they try to report a photo.

  3. Yea I totally agree. I think that Facebook trys to pretend like they are all about users rights, but why arent they telling people about these new things on our newfeeds or in a message. I don't know how many times a month I get an updated Facebook notice, they could do the same with the new settings like this one!
